Winter Camp 2009

We are offering one camp during the Winter season:

  • Feb 16-20, 2009

THE PROGRAM

The day-long program runs from 9:00a - 3:30p, and will include
 
Games:
  • Horse Bingo
  • Horse-Opoly
  • Herd Your Horses
  • Horse Jeopardy
Crafts:
  • Baking horse treats for the week (on 1st day)
  • Draw-string bags (with horses on them)
  • Journals - detailing
  • Drawing your favorite horses
  • Lettering
  • Bird Feeders
  • Beading
  • Lead ropes (on 2nd day)
Activities:
  • Tack/blanket cleaning
  • Barn organizing
  • Stable management
  • Pasture pick-up
  • Fence repair
  • Leg wrapping
  • First aid for horses (e.g., colic, wounds, lameness, etc.)
  • Horse Knowledge Discussions

All levels of rider, from rank beginner to advanced, are welcome. The physical size, riding ability and previous experience of each camper are carefully considered in the assignment of horses and riding groups.

Good Morning Meeting, review of safety rules, and feed / stalls / turnout
9:30 am
Gathering: name game, overview of day, horse assignments, barn rules
9:45 am
Feed: campers will give thier horses breakfast (hay, grain, water)
10:00 am
Quick Groom: campers will groom their horses for the first ride
10:20 am
SNACK TIME

10:30 pm

Tack Up: put on saddles and bridles (English or Western)

10:45 am

Morning Ride: riding lesson in the grass ring

11:30 am

Untack & Stall Clean

12:15 pm

LUNCH: eating, playing games, crafts, journals

1:15 pm

Horse Facts: horse knowledge discussion

1:30 pm

2nd Feed: give lunch to your horse

1:40 pm

Show Grooming: show quality grooming incl. braiding

2:00 pm

Tack/Afternoon Trail Ride

3:00 pm

Untack horses and clean up stalls

3:30 pm

Pick Up: see you tomorrow!

WHAT TO BRING

Each day, campers should arrive with:

  • Bag lunch (except Friday)--refrigeration is available
  • Snack (except Friday)
  • 2 large bottles of water
  • Cold weather accessories (gloves, scarves, hat, etc.)
  • Riding helmet
  • Winter Boots (waterproof preferable)
  • Sunglasses (optional)
  • Change of clothes
