Summer Camps 2010

We are offering five, one week long sessions for the 2010 season:

  • June 28 - July 2
  • July 19 - 23
  • July 26 - 30 (Intermediate Riders*)
  • August 9 - 13
  • August 23 - 27
*Intermediate riders comfortable with walk/trot/canter and low jumping.

THE PROGRAM

The day-long program runs from 9:00a - 3:30p, and will include:
  • Horsemanship classes
  • Equitation classes
  • Bareback riding
  • Care of the horse and ground games
  • Master classes
  • Horse-themed crafts and games
  • Contests
  • Trail rides
  • Snack and lunch time

All levels of rider, from rank beginner to advanced, are welcome. The physical size, riding ability and previous experience of each camper are carefully considered in the assignment of horses and riding groups.

Thursday Night Sleepover Option

For each camp, Sunny Hill will host an optional sleepover on Thursday evening, which will include additional equine-related activities in the afternoon, dinner, games and a movie before lights out by 9:30p. The campers will be responsbile for providing their own sleeping bag and pillow.

Lunch, followed by crafts, journaling about camp experience

Master Class (learn parts of a horse, parts of tack, breeds, colors, longeing demonstration) or Ground Games

Groom and tack

2:00 pm:

Bareback or trail ride

3:00 pm:

Cool down and clean up

3:30 pm:

Dismissal

You can feel comfortable knowing that regular re-application of sunscreen and frequent water breaks are part of our busy day.
 
Note - on Fridays we will provide lunch, snacks, dessert and beverages. A typical Friday menu consists of pizza, fresh fruit and veggies, cookies, water and juice.
 
Individual eating habits and food allergies are ALWAYS taken into consideration.

WHAT TO BRING

Each day, campers should arrive with:

  • Bag lunch (except Friday)--refrigeration is available
  • Snack (except Friday)
  • 2 large bottles of water
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug repellent
  • Sun hat (optional)
  • Riding helmet
  • Boots with small heel
  • Long pants
  • Sunglasses (optional)
  • Change of clothes
